A Dyslexia assessment, whether for children or adults, involves a series of tests. This will involve tasks to measure spelling, writing, reading, and numeracy skills, along with memory, processing speed, and phonological awareness. This can be delivered in one session with multiple breaks or over two sessions depending on the age and needs of the child. Formal assessments typically last around 3.5 hours long and are delivered at my home office address. Parents can choose to stay on site or drop their child.
A formal assessment supports an application for reasonable adjustments in formal examinations and may be used to support future applications for Disabled Students’ Allowance, as appropriate.
This assessment is specifically tailored for children who are either under the age of 8 or are not making progress at school but may not require a full diagnostic assessment. Before the age of 8 diagnosing dyslexia can often be challenging. This shorter assessment is the beginning step to identify any gaps in a child’s knowledge, their strengths and how they can use these to help with challenges in their learning.
A report is produced which includes test results, insight into a child’s strengths and challenges and tailored recommendations for support at home and school.
Please note, as this is not a formal diagnostic assessment, the findings cannot be used to support DSA applications but have been used to support EHCP applications at the discretion of the school.
I believe in a tailored approach. My tutoring is individualised and multi-sensory and follows a structured approach enabling students to become secure in an area of challenge. Tuition can take place after school or during school hours, I can be flexible and provide tuition when you need it.
Sessions are delivered one-to-one at my home office in a private room with access to outside space and private facilities. Sessions usually run for 50 minutes.
